How BC Hydro Peak Saver Works
Understanding peak events and why you remain in 100% control.
1. Peak Event Alert
On freezing winter days, BC Hydro schedules brief 1 to 4-hour demand events during peak grid consumption hours.
2. Subtle Temperature Adjustment
Your smart thermostats adjust down slightly (by 2°C) during the event to conserve grid capacity without compromising home comfort.
3. Get Rewarded
You receive $50 in annual seasonal rewards per eligible device category. You retain 100% control and can override event temperature settings at any time with 1 click.

Who is eligible for the free thermostat offer?
You need a residential BC Hydro account, an online MyHydro account, and electric baseboard heating. The thermostats must be installed at the service address registered to the MyHydro account used when placing the order.
Can renters participate?
Yes, with the landlord's permission before ordering.
Is the offer really free?
BC Hydro covers up to five thermostats plus shipping and handling. Optional professional installation is not included.
How many thermostats can I receive?

Can I install the thermostats myself?

How do I receive the seasonal reward?
To complete your enrollment in Peak Saver, install your thermostats and add them to the Sinopé app. Participate in a minimum of 50% of the events. The reward is issued by BC Hydro as a bill credit at the end of the season.
How much is the seasonal reward?
The seasonal reward is $50 per device category.
What happens during a Peak Saver event?
BC Hydro will temporarily adjust your enrolled Sinopé thermostats by 2 degrees during periods of high electricity demand. Each event lasts no more than four hours, after which normal operation resumes.

Can I override a Peak Saver event?
Yes. You can opt out at any time and retain full control of your thermostats. If you opt out of more than 50% of events in a season, you may not be eligible for the seasonal reward.
Will I receive the Peak Saver enrollment bonus if I purchased the free thermostats?
No. Customers who receive free thermostats are not eligible for the enrollment bonus, but can still earn the seasonal reward.
