FAQs
What is the purpose of the Calypso water heater controller?
Calypso allows you to remotely control the power supply to your electric water heater. You can save money on your electricity bill by participating in your utility's peak events, and by turning off your water heater remotely via your mobile devices when you leave for a few days.
What's the best way to save money with Calypso?
Using Calypso with the free Éco Sinopé feature is the best way to achieve savings. Éco Sinopé works in conjunction with electricity suppliers' dynamic pricing programs to control energy demand during peak periods, or to turn off the water heater during prolonged absences (3 days or more).
Does it pay to turn off the water heater at night?
No. The energy required to heat the water when the appliance is reactivated in the morning cancels out any potential savings. In addition, it's not advisable to turn off the water heater overnight, or to run it on a set schedule, to avoid bacterial growth.
How does Calypso work during a peak event?
When your Calypso water heater controller participates in a peak event, the “link” LED flashes green and the DR icon appears on the product page in the Neviweb app. See details in this article.
Does Calypso prevent the development of bacteria?
Yes, the Calypso probe ensures a minimum temperature threshold to limit bacterial growth. The Neviweb app also features a “low-temperature protection” setting which, when activated, will restart the water heater if the water temperature detected by the probe falls below a predetermined threshold (between 45°C and 55°C).
