Sinopé Technologies unveils its alternative to Hydro-Québec’s Hilo with Éco Sinopé

(Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu) October 28th, 2021 – Sinopé Technologies, a Quebec-based company specializing in creating smart devices and energy management for over ten years, unveils Éco Sinopé. This free feature for Quebecers allows them to benefit from Hydro-Québec’s dynamic pricing while maintaining complete control over their connected products at all times.

Launched in its preliminary version in winter 2020-2021, Éco Sinopé helped user-testers erase an average of 210.33 kWh between December 1st, 2020 and March 31st, 2021. Over half (51%) of them saved between $50 and $150, and 8% saved more than $250. (1)

Éco Sinopé allows consumers to automate the instructions they receive from Hydro-Québec during events when the power utility asks them to reduce their energy consumption, thus optimizing the rewards and savings associated with dynamic pricing.

Only winners, no losers

“With Éco Sinopé, consumers are only winners. They can participate in as many events as they want to maximize the rewards they will receive from Hydro-Québec. They will never be penalized for opting-out, says Maxime Caron-Labonté, Chief Commercial Officer at Sinopé Technologies, who adds that, unlike Hilo, Éco Sinopé does not require a minimum three-year commitment forcing users to accept the challenges launched by Hydro-Québec during this period.’’

Available throughout North America, the Éco Sinopé feature can be tailored to answer power utilities’ needs and address specific markets, as it is the case in British Columbia, where the feature is called Peak Rewards.

In Quebec, Éco Sinopé offers five profiles corresponding to the level of adjustment of device instructions during peak events. Hence, two hours before the peak event, the temperature setpoint of the thermostat increases by the number of degrees chosen to preheat the room and accumulate energy. During the peak period (6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.), the setpoint temperature is reduced to achieve significant savings. The consumer can adjust the level of participation of each device for optimized comfort and the best energy savings.

To fully benefit from the advantages of Éco Sinopé, users must first register for the dynamic pricing program of their electricity supplier.

Éco Sinopé is compatible with all Sinopé-branded smart thermostats as well as Ouellet-branded smart thermostats for electric heating. The Sinopé electrical load controller, which allows controlling the use of energy-intensive appliances such as the water heater remotely, is also compatible with Éco Sinopé.

Sinopé Technologies has worked with several electricity suppliers over the years. Sinopé thermostats are currently eligible for four rebate programs in Canada, in Ontario, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and British Columbia. Nine US states, including California, Colorado, Massachusetts and Washington State, also offer 11 discount programs to which Sinopé thermostats are eligible.
